Auto-pedestrian accidents are not uncommon in California. According to the Cal-Office of Traffic Safety, the problem of cars striking pedestrians are going from bad to worse, with more people choosing to walk as a form of exercise and an alternative to driving.
To this end, OTS advises that drivers and pedestrians practice safe road behaviors and follow safety tips. The latter for pedestrians covers wearing clothes with bright colors, carrying a flashlight at night, and avoiding dangerous road behaviors like jaywalking.
Safety tips for drivers include yielding the way to pedestrians, stopping at crosswalks and intersections, and looking left-right-left before proceeding. Others are backing out of parking spaces and driveways cautiously, and maintaining the speed limit in school, business, and residential areas.
