Commander Anthony Novak said that upon arrival, officers discovered a BMW 3351 with extensive damage. A preliminary investigation uncovered that the vehicle traveled northbound on Van Dyke, north of 127th Street at high speed. Sherman, the driver of the car, then lost control and struck two utility poles.
Medics transported the victim to Rush Copley Medical Center in Aurora with life-threatening injuries. From there, they airlifted Sherman to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where he died from his injuries. Novak said the teenager was the only occupant of the BMW.
The crash led to a power outage in the area, and the police closed the affected roadway while they cleared the scene. The PPD had the assistance of the Plainfield Emergency Management Agency personnel, and the investigation into the occurrence remains active.
Motor vehicle accidents are one of the leading causes of teenager’s death in the United States. Male teens are prone to crash more than their female counterparts, but they can avoid it by practicing safe road habits and following the guidelines for their safety.
