A traffic accident occurs when a car collides with another, a human being, tree, object, or property. Factors that lead to crashes are either negligent behavior of road users or external influences beyond their control. Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol falls under the negligence of drivers.
Under California law, a motorist must not have .08% blood alcohol concentration or above when operating a vehicle. It’s .04% for commercial drivers, and for young adults below the age of 21, it’s .01%. Drivers who disobey this are liable to a charge of driving under the influence. If found guilty in a court of law, they would face jail time, a fine, revocation of driver’s license, and compulsory alcohol reeducation program.
