Nearly a week after a two-vehicle collision on Route 125 in the Cass County area of Illinois left three people injured, the Illinois State Police has released details of the occurrence. The car accident report of Wednesday, July 29th, named Kendall Eastin, 28, of Jacksonville, and Michael Thomas, 50, of East Peoria, as the drivers involved.
According to the ISP, at about 11:48 a.m. on Thursday, July 23rd, Eastin, who was westbound on R-125 in a Kia Sorento, went off the north side of the roadway. The investigators said that the woman appeared to have overcorrected, crossed the centerline, and entered into the path of an oncoming 2011 International semi-tractor trailer operated by Thomas.

The Kia passed off the semi, went through the westbound lane, overturned and rested on the driver’s side. First responders had to extricate Eastin from the car, while a juvenile, presumed to be her son, freed himself. The medics airlifted the two of them from the scene to a hospital to receive treatment.
The ISP said the semi went off the south side of the highway and caught fire. Thomas was able to free himself before the vehicle became engulfed, and an ambulance took him to a hospital in Springfield for treatment. The report showed that the collision closed R-125 for three and a half hours, and the investigators re-routed traffic.
Movement resumed on the roadway at about 3:30 p.m. but the investigators restricted to one lane until approximately 9 p.m. Thursday. The ISP said they cited Eastin for improper lane usage, and Virginia Fire and Rescue assisted at the scene.
