Auto-bicycle collisions are not as frequent as auto-motorcycle or motor vehicle crashes, but they usually have severe consequences. Common causes of this kind of accident include careless riding and driving, riding too fast for road conditions, and riding too close to a motor vehicle lane.
Bicycle riders should stay on the right side of the road unless they are turning, avoiding an object, or safety requires that they ride in the center part of the left lane. Bicyclists must obey traffic lights and stop signs and use signals when turning. Stick to sidewalks, and ride cautiously when close to parking lot lanes and driveways. Use extra caution and be proactive when on the road.
