The deputy coroner added that there was another child in the accident, whom they identified as Kayden Young. The child, who looks about 2-year-old, was flown to a hospital in Macon in a helicopter and is still alive at the time of this report.
A preliminary investigation by the county’s police and the Georgia State Patrol, uncovered that the accident happened on the north lanes of Interstate 75 near mile marker 125, precisely south of the exit at Ga. 26, west of Elko, and nine miles south of Perry.
Witnesses at the scene said that Alisha was driving at a slow speed in the right lane when a semi-truck traveling fast came up behind her. The driver of the truck swerved in time to avoid hitting the woman’s minivan, but another trailer-truck coming from behind wasn’t fast enough.
The second truck clipped the rear of the van, sending it spinning off the road. Gabbard said Alisha’s vehicle was wrecked, with little or nothing left of it.
The deputy coroner added it is not clear why the woman was heading north on the interstate. The GSP is heading the investigation into the cause of the crash and will update the public once it has more information.
