Sunday, March 8 didn’t start quite as 28-year-old Jamar Williams had hoped. He was driving through the intersection of El Dorado and Walnut Street around 6 a.m. when he failed to stop at a stop sign.
Not only did Mr. Williams fail to stop at the stop sign, he went through the intersection only to collide with a police car that was on the other side.

The police car sustained what was considered moderate damages. The policemen inside the car were taken to the hospital as a precaution. They said that they were experiencing some pain, but other than that they checked out without major injuries.
Police that were called to the scene evaluated Williams. The reports didn’t indicate that he needed any treatment for injuries. They escorted Williams to jail and charged him with a DUI.
The DUI charge that Williams is facing is a misdemeanor if this is his first DUI. The report released to the public did not indicate what Williams’ blood-alcohol content was at the time of the arrest. That could play a role in his charges as well.
A first DUI conviction in California comes with a fine that can result in thousands of dollars depending on the damages. Jail time can also total up to 6 months.
There is no mention if Williams will be facing charges for the injuries to the police officers. Although minor it could still be considered assault with his DUI charge.
The accident is still being investigated by the Stockton Police Department.
