On Monday, August 24th, the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office released details of a weekend crash involving three teenagers. One of the teenagers, Henri Bauby, 19, of Dixon, received a citation in connection with the accident in Morrison, Illinois.
According to the WCSO, Bauby was behind the wheel of a Ford Focus with two 19-year-old passengers riding alongside him. The vehicle was heading south on French Street. Upon approaching the Walnut Street intersection, the teenage driver failed to stop at a stop sign, driving past nonchalantly. The move caused the vehicle to hit a ditch and skid into the side yard of a rural Rock Falls home, where it came to rest at about 9 p.m.

Bauby and his passengers, Brody Ivey and Colin Roberts, sustained minor injuries in the Friday, August 21st crash. Emergency medical services treated them on the scene before clearing them to leave. Whiteside County deputies issued Bauby a citation for disobeying a stop sign.
Disobeying a stop is a moving violation under Illinois law, and often attracts traffic tickets or citations. The fines for violating stop signs or red lights could be up to $120 for first offenders, with 20 demerit points added to the perpetrator’s driving records.
In most cases, this type of violation can lead to major property destruction, serious injuries, or death. It is, therefore, crucial for motorists to observe all stop signs properly and proceed with caution after encountering one. That way, the risk of encountering accidents at intersections or street corners would decline drastically.
