Tatia reportedly was a passenger in an eastbound vehicle on Interstate 290 just before 1 a.m. Sunday. The driver of the car, a 19-year-old male whose name has not been released, crashed into the rear of a second eastbound vehicle, troopers said.
The driver, Tatia and another passenger, a 17-year-old male, were transported by emergency medical personnel to area hospitals after the wreck, authorities said. The 43-year-old man who was operating the second vehicle also was hospitalized for injuries sustained in the incident.
Tatia later died at the hospital, according to car accident reports. None of the other people involved in the collision have been publicly identified by investigators.
Troopers have not yet announced whether charges will be filed or citations issued as a result of the investigation. They also have not said whether they believe either driver was speeding or intoxicated at the time of the crash.
The incident remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police. Depending on the results of the investigation, one or both of the drivers might consider seeking the services of the car injury lawyer.
