The Texas Department of Public Safety reported Monday that Lainez was stopped on FM 1381 at about 9:45 a.m. Friday when she attempted to turn eastbound onto U.S. 60. As she was pulling into traffic, her vehicle was struck by an eastbound semi-tractor trailer, according to car accident reports.
The crash pushed Lainez’ pickup truck across the westbound lanes and back onto FM 1381, troopers reported. The semi, meanwhile, came to rest in the median of the highway.
Emergency medical personnel pronounced Lainez dead at the scene of the wreck. Vincente Oropreza-Diaz, a 33-year-old resident of Fort Worth, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Parmer County Community Hospital for emergency treatment, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Authorities did not publicly identify the driver of the semi. The driver did not suffer any injuries in the crash, troopers said.
The highway was shut down for some time after the crash as investigators worked at the scene.
It’s unclear from car accident reports whether any charges will be filed or citations issued as a result of the crash. Troopers from the state agency continue to investigate the incident.
