The California Highway Patrol has released an initial report regarding an accident that occurred around 10:15 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25. The accident happened along Highway 12 just east of Double Springs Road.
For reasons that have yet to be determined, a 79-year-old man was driving down Highway 12. He drifted onto the shoulder of the highway and then overcorrected. His car then drifted into the other lanes of traffic where he hit an oncoming vehicle head-on.

The driver of the other car was identified as Janeva Thorbrogger, who was accompanied by her two children. Paramedics were called to the scene of the accident to assist in transporting victims. Thorbrogger was transported by helicopter to a hospital, and her children were taken by ambulance to Memorial Medical Center.
The man who caused the accident was also injured, but the extent of his injuries was not specified at the time of the release. The California Highway Patrol does not suspect that drugs or alcohol played a factor in the collision.
They did indicate that the weather at the time of the accident was not conducive to a safe driving environment. The roads were wet, and it was hailing at the time of the collision.
The California Highway Patrol is currently investigating the accident to determine the cause of the man leaving the roadway, to begin with.
There have not been any updates on any of the injured occupants of either vehicle.
