55-year-old Felipe Cobain of Montclair was driving his 1993 Nissan truck westbound on the 10 Freeway. He rear-ended a 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe that had either come to a complete stop or was barely moving in the lane.

The accident displaced Cobain’s vehicle into the middle lane of the freeway. He was then struck by a 2018 Honda Accord.

The Honda Accord was being driven by 37-year-old Luis Uribe of Covina. Uribe was transported from the accident scene to the hospital where he was diagnosed with a spinal fracture.

Spinal fractures can be extremely dangerous depending on the vertebrae involved. Uribe could be looking at extensive physical therapy for difficulties walking or even extremity paralysis.

Cobain was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. His injuries were too extensive and he succumbed to them before they could transport him.

The driver of the Santa Fe was identified as 57-year-old Ana Guillen of West Covina. Upon extracting her from the vehicle, the California Highway Patrol could already tell she was under the influence.

It has not been determined if it was drugs or alcohol were the cause of the impairment. They arrested her at the scene. After the arrest, she was transported to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation.

The charges against Guillen have not been released to the public yet.

It is unclear if Guillen was coming from somewhere before the accident. If it is found that she was over-served at an establishment, they will also be liable for the accident. It is illegal to serve alcohol to someone who is already intoxicated.

The California Highway Patrol is still actively investigating this accident.
