BAKERSFIELD, CA – Officials with the California Highway Patrol reported a fatal vehicle vs. pedestrian collision in South Bakersfield on Sunday evening.
According to KGET, officers were dispatched to the scene on South Union Avenue, just south of Belle Terrace, at about 6:42 a.m.

When they arrived, they discovered that a woman was struck by a southbound vehicle while walking south on S Union Ave. The colliding vehicle had already fled from the scene.
The victim sustained major injures and was rushed to Kern Medical, where she later died.
CHP says alcohol or drugs are not believed to have played a role.
The circumstances of the crash remained under investigation.
