A semi-truck driver from Fort Worth, Texas, has received a citation following an accident that occurred late in the evening on April 17. The Illinois State Police responded to the scene of the accident around 10:30 p.m. along Interstate 57, five miles south of the south tri-level.
At the scene, they found a purple 2001 Freightliner semi-truck and trailer near mile marker 153. Based on the reports, the driver, 36-year-old Farhaan Hirsi, was driving in the left lane when the truck exited the roadway. The investigation determined that Hirsi was driving southbound at the time of the accident.

After leaving the road, the semi then struck the support of a bridge. The truck then stopped in the median of the roadway.
Ambulance services transported Hirsi to HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham. There he received treatment for injuries that were deemed non-life threatening.
The Illinois State Police cited Hirsi for failure to reduce his speed to avoid an accident and for improper lane usage.
The report did not indicate why the truck left the road in the first place. The police are considering speed to be the only factor in the accident. There was no indication that Hirsi was impaired at the time of the accident.
It is unclear if the semi had to be towed from the scene or if it was still in driving condition. The status of Hirsi after the accident is not clear at this time either. It is assumed that he was treated and released with the citation.
