The officers checked the license plate and received an alert to a lost or stolen plate that did not match the car. They pulled the vehicle over on the 9600-block of Cherry Street, and the CHP lawmen advised Salgado and a female passenger to exit the Dodge. At this point, the victim started ramming his car into patrol vehicles, and three officers shot at him.
The bullet struck the man several times and also hit the passenger, who is pregnant. The OPD did not release her name, but relatives identified her as Salgado’s girlfriend. She survived and is an undisclosed hospital in stable condition.
The police did not identify the officers that shot the two, but they revealed that the Dodge is among 74 vehicles stolen from a dealership in San Leandro on Wednesday night, June 3rd. The accident report did not state if the officers recovered any weapon at the scene.
Multiple investigations are ongoing, with the OPD Criminal Investigations Unit handling the criminal probe. The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office is investigating the use of force, and the CHP Critical Incident Investigation Team is conducting an internal administrative investigation.
