The park is close to Seventh Avenue and Elmwood Street. The authorities said that troopers tried to stop Romero for a traffic violation. Instead of stopping, he fled south at top speed before crashing. Bart Graves, the DPS spokesman said the car caught fire upon collision.
The teenager did not survive the crash, and the medics pronounced him dead at the scene. The authorities did not provide details on why the teenager fled, and there’s no additional information at this time.
According to the CDC, and based on accident reports, motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for teens in the United States. In 2017, about 2, 364 teens aged between 16 and 19 died in crashes, and about 300 000 received treatment in the emergency department of hospitals.
It means that six teens within that age ratio died every day due to vehicular crashes. Male teens are more at risks, followed by those with passengers, and newly licensed teenagers. The factors that influence teenage accidents range from inexperience to impaired driving, and over-speeding and lack of seatbelt use also contribute.
