A man who the police in Highland, 5 miles to San Bernardino, California, arrested for an accident that injured five children would need to hire a drunk driving attorney. Eric Ortega, 28, was allegedly driving under the influence at the time of the Saturday, May 2nd, accident.
The preliminary accident report showed that the suspect was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe with the children aged between 6 and 10, as his passengers. Ortega is the father of two out of the five, and an uncle to the rest.

According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office, the group was going west on Greenspot Road near Santa Ana Canyon. At about 7:13 p.m., the SUV went off the road into a dirt field and rolled. Ortega and the children were not wearing seat belts and sustained injuries.
Cal Fire’s San Bernardino Unit had to rush two of the youngsters to Loma Linda University Medical Center, Loma Linda. The medics also took the remaining three to the same hospital; they all had severe wounds.
Ortega, on the other hand, went to the Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton for treatment, before the sheriff’s deputies took him to the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga. The police have him on a bail bond of $100 000, and he will remain in custody until he fulfills the bond.
The man is facing a DUI charge as well as child cruelty, hence the drunk driving attorney. The Accident Investigation Unit of the sheriff’s office is heading the investigation into the accident and will release an update at a later time.
