The Bibb County Sheriff’s Department is currently investigating the circumstances that revolve around the death of an elderly lady. The accident occurred just after 4:30 p.m. Monday, March 23, at the residence of the victim.
The Sheriff’s Department identified the woman as 84-year-old Macon resident, Joan Bennett. She had just returned home and was attempting to get out of her car when she fell. The car was still running and was set in gear, which caused it to begin to roll.

The vehicle rolled backward over Bennett, who was still on the ground.
The police report did not specify who called the police or medical first responders. They were able to get the woman transported to Coliseum Northside Hospital. Reports later indicated that the woman died of the injuries that she sustained when her vehicle rolled over her.
Multiple types of injuries can be sustained when a vehicle rolls over a person. A vehicle is a massive piece of equipment that is composed of all-metal framing. Crush injuries are the most common injury that occurs. Bones can be fragile, especially in elderly individuals. Spinal injuries that can cause paralysis are a danger.
Traumatic brain injuries can occur if the head is positioned under the vehicle. The extent of Bennett’s injuries has not been released yet.
More details are likely to become available once the investigation is complete. The actual cause of death will also be available once an autopsy is performed, if the Sherrif’s Office requested one.
