After investigating the accident, the Cherokee County Sheriff came across a home with video surveillance facing the direction of the accident site. The postal worker, 38-year-old Jaynie Underwood, was seen backing up the truck shortly after Daniels walked behind it.
Underwood told deputies at the scene that she saw Daniels standing in her yard by the mailbox when she passed, but when she looked back, the woman was in the road. She denies hitting the woman with the mail truck.
Based on the video, deputies have pieced together that after the accident, Underwood called her supervisor after putting Daniels mail back in the mailbox.
Daniels was taken from the scene to an area hospital. She is currently still admitted and receiving treatment for a severe head injury.
Underwood is being charged with improper backing, failure to exercise due care, and giving a false statement to police.
It is unclear if Underwood has obtained legal counsel for the charges she is facing. Her bond was set for $3,452.
