Fatality in motor vehicle accidents is preventable if drivers and passengers follow the safety tips and rules laid down by law enforcement and traffic agencies. Under California law, drivers and their passengers must wear a seatbelt and ensure they use the strap correctly.
Drivers with children must ensure that they are seated in a car seat designed for minors and adequately strapped. Using a seatbelt keeps vehicle occupants inside during a collision, and it prevents ejection, which often has fatal consequences. Failure to obey the law is a traffic offense and offenders are liable to pay a fine and have points on their driver’s license.
