Investigators determined that the two victims were traveling in a car, through the south lanes of South Pacific, a few miles north of Ming Avenue. CHP officials said Martinez was driving the vehicle at the time, while Bautista was his front-seat passenger.
The vehicle suddenly drifted off the road for reasons still under investigation and crashed into a chain-link fence. It then pushed forward until it collided with a cinder block wall, ejecting its two occupants in the process. When the emergency response team arrived, they pronounced Martinez and his female passenger, Bautista, dead at the scene. Detectives believe both victims were not wearing protective restraints when the crash happened, but further details are not available at this time.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the case to determine the cause of the traffic collision. Updated accident reports would include additional findings from the investigations, once made available.
