The man was also running through red lights and stop signs. The police tried to pull him over, but he failed to stop, and officers gave chase. A patrol vehicle caught up with Angeles before he could enter the 605 Freeway at Spring Street.
The officer in the vehicle performed a successful PIT maneuver, and the SUV, the suspect, was driving struck the center divider under an overpass. The police arrested Angeles and found a female passenger and a teenager in the car.
Lt. Michael Shaw of the Lakewood Sheriff’s Station said that the woman and the teenager would serve as witnesses. He failed to state whether the unnamed duo sustained any injury in the crash. The accident led to the closure of the northbound lanes of the freeway by the CHP.
The southbound carpool lane was also shut down temporarily while the authorities cleared debris from the road. Angeles is facing suspicion of evading charges, DUI, and child endangerment.
Those involved in this kind of police chase crash while under the influence should contact a drunk driving attorney for legal advice and representation.
