The crash took place on May 5 on Queen City Parkway in Gainesville.
The 22-year-old was on his way home on his motorcycle when a pickup truck cut him off while executing a U-turn.
That vehicle was driven by 17-year-old Bryan Lopez and it ran over Gonzalez, breaking bones in both legs.
Lopez is now facing a felony hit-and-run charge as well as a charge of failing to yield while turning left.
Gonzalez said the impact threw him into the air and into the path of vehicles going in the opposite direction. He said his leg got stuck under a car and one of his ankles was shattered.
Police Corporal Jessica Van said Lopez drove off after he hit Gonzalez, but several witnesses were present. Officers were able to get the vehicle’s license plate number and they arrested the driver about an hour after the crash.
Lopez was booked into the Hall County jail and released on a $5,830 bond the next morning.
Gonzalez said the crash resulted in unbearable pain and he had already undergone three surgeries.
Accident reports did not say whether he would be seeking compensation for his injuries and other losses with help from a Georgia attorney.
