The woman failed to stop at a stop sign at the road’s intersection with IR-251 and struck a southbound Buick operated by Metzger. Medics transported the Buick driver and her three children to Rochelle Community Hospital for treatment.
The paramedics also transported Lantz to the same hospital, and the police believe the injuries are non-life-threatening. Deputies cited the woman for disobeying a stop sign. The sheriff’s office responded alongside Lynn-Scott-Rock Fire Department.
The agencies had the assistance of the Illinois State Police and the Rochelle Fire Department. There is no additional information.
Under Illinois law, drivers must obey all stop signs and stop at intersections with one before entering a crosswalk. If there is no crosswalk, the driver is expected to stop at a marked line for that purpose.
Failure to obey a stop sign is a petty offense with a maximum fine of $1000. The penalty comes with additional mandatory court costs and assessments, and the Secretary of State would record it against the offender’s driver’s license.
