The North Augusta Department of Public Safety made an identification of the man that they are looking for in connection to a hit-and-run accident that occurred March 9. The accident happened around 3 p.m. along Georgia Avenue, near Observatory Avenue.
The vehicles involved were a gray truck and a red truck. Reports weren’t descriptive as to the make or model, nor did they say how the accident happened. They did disclose that the driver of the red truck had been identified as Jesse Shackelford.

The person in the gray truck was not identified, nor did the news reports disclose if the driver was injured in the accident. Pictures released of the scene showed the grey truck with the top compacted while it rested upside down. There was a large amount of debris in the roadway of the picture.
The red truck, driven by Shackelford, took off after the accident and got to Summerhill before abandoning the truck. He fled on foot at that point.
A post that was released on social media showed Shackelford’s picture along with the caption about how the authorities were searching for him. They wanted to “discuss some items he had left in his vehicle”.
Even after apprehending Shackelford, it was not released to the public what the items were in the truck that they wanted to discuss.
The North Augusta Department of Public Safety has not said what charges Shackelford is facing or if they believe that he was impaired at the time of the accident. It is easy to speculate at this point that the items in his truck could have been what led to the collision.
The investigation is currently ongoing. As information is made available to the public, updates will be published.
