The Dallas Police Department had already scheduled the meeting with the city council members that took place on Monday, February 10, regarding the street racing and stunt driving problems that the area is facing.
Despite the laws that are currently in the books making these types of activities illegal, it doesn’t seem like they can fully get a handle on the situation. When they think they have taken care of one mass event, another one pops up somewhere else.

The events are being referred to as “takeover events” because hundreds of people from all over are flocking to witness these illegal races.
The accident that occurred late Saturday night is just an example of the types of problems that stem from these racing events.
20-year-old Crystian Hernandez was sitting at the rear window of a truck that was performing donut tricks when he fell off and into the parking lot where the illegal event was being held.
As a result, Hernandez was run over by the driver of the truck, 28-year-old Edgar Moncada. Moncada did remain at the scene of the accident and was arrested and charged with manslaughter.
Hernandez died as a result of the injuries sustained.
Law enforcement officials are seeking approval of a new ordinance in which they would make the people who come to watch these illegal acts subject to arrest as well. The Chief of Police feels that if there are no spectators, there is no illegal act to contend with.
Another part of the proposed ordinance allows for the takeover of street racing vehicles without having to go through the district attorney’s office.
The council members were not completely satisfied with this response to the problem. They want law enforcement officers to enforce the laws.
They fear that an ordinance alone will simply be their way of saying they will do something and nothing getting done.
