Aspegren drove a Chevrolet Impala south on the highway when he drifted across the centerline into oncoming traffic south of Stage Gulch Road. He collided with a Ford Focus driven by a 22-year-old male, and the impact left the victim trapped in his vehicle. CHP Officer David deRutte said that it took the emergency workers’ efforts to extricate the man from the wrecked car.
The victim suffered significant injuries, and the medics flew him to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. The suspect sustained injuries and received treatment at Memorial Hospital. The CHP determined that he was under the influence at the time of the accident, and placed him under arrest on suspicion of DUI and other charges.
Aspegren was placed in jail after the medical personnel cleared him for booking. They are holding him on a $100 000 bail bond, and he would appear in Sonoma County Superior Court on Tuesday, July 28th. The incident remains under investigation.
