Lawsuits for wrongful death are starting to rise out of the wake of the Chesapeake Energy oil well explosion that took place on January 29, 2020. Three men were confirmed dead days after the explosion.
A lawsuit that was filed this week by Madison Hendrix, the daughter of Brad Hendrix, seeks $1 million from Chesapeake Energy, Forbes Energy Services, Eagle Pressure Control, WildHorse Resource Development Corporation, and Halliburton Company for their negligence that caused the explosion.

She claims that Chesapeake, who owns the well, and the service companies for the oilfield were negligent and did not provide a safe work environment or adequate medical care for those workers.
This lawsuit is on the heels of another lawsuit that was filed by the mother of Windell Beddingfield earlier this week.
The original story regarding the explosion reported that three men had been confirmed dead in the explosion. Windell Beddingfield was killed on the scene and two other injured men died from injuries while in the hospital. The name of the second man to die had been withheld from the public. The third man confirmed dead was Brian Maldonado.
All three Eagle Pressure Control Employees were working at the oil well at the time of the explosion. There has not been an updated explanation as to what caused the explosion other than the leaking of natural gas being ignited and causing the explosion.
Attorneys for Hendrix did not respond to requests for comment. Chesapeake’s statement offers condolences for those involved in the accident and that they are saddened by the deaths.
Brad Hendrix would have been the second man killed in the explosion, the name that was withheld in the previous reports. His biography on the Eagle Pressure Control website names him as the Wellhead Intervention Technical Advisor. He had 28 years of experience working in the industry.
