On Sunday, August 16th, the Illinois State Police arrested Darrel Sims, 52, for crashing into an Illinois Department of Transportation truck in downtown Chicago, Illinois. The city resident would need an auto accident attorney to represent him.
In a press release, the ISP said that the crash took place around 2 a.m. with the maintenance truck and a fully marked Chicago Police Department squad car blocking the lanes of the exit ramp on Interstate 94 (Dan Ryan Expressway). The blockage was towards Roosevelt Road on the Near West Side.

The crash report disclosed that Sims failed to stop his 2005 blue-colored Dodge Caravan and crashed into the I-DOT truck. The driver of the vehicle, a 70-year-old man, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and received treatment in a hospital.
Sims was uninjured, and the state police took him into custody after determining impairment. They charged him with driving under the influence, having a controlled substance, and multiple moving violations.
The ISP said that the truck blocked the exit as part of the nightly closures blocking access to Chicago’s downtown area following widespread looting. The restrictions remained in place until 6 a.m., Monday, August 17th.
Under Illinois law, driving under the influence of a controlled substance is a severe offense, and offenders are liable to face harsh punishments. The latter covers a time in jail, payment of a fine, suspension of driving privileges, and it also applies to drivers who drive under the influence of alcohol at .08 BAC level.
