The incident caused the police to shut down a portion of the affected roadway for several hours while they investigated and cleared the scene. The investigation is ongoing, and it is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a role in the occurrence.
A motor vehicle accident is one of the leading causes of death in California, and it occurs for otherwise avoidable reasons. Causes of traffic collisions include driving under the influence, speeding, running red lights or traffic lights, or distracted driving caused by texting, calling, or eating.
It takes a distracted driver about three seconds to crash; thus, drivers must pay rapt attention when on the road. Motorists should ensure they drive with less than .08 blood alcohol concentration, obey traffic lights and signs, and maintain the speed limit of each roadway. Additionally, rest adequately before driving and, if impaired, seek an alternative means of transportation.
