After spinning out across traffic from the first accident, Martinez was then struck by a Kia that was traveling behind him in the southbound lane.
When the Toyota came to rest after the collisions, it was blocking both lanes of Highway 33.
According to police, the drivers of the other two vehicles involved sustained injuries as a result of the accident. Their current status was not released. They were also not identified to the public at present.
According to coroner’s officials, Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
It is not clear if the police suspect impairment as a factor in the initial collision caused by Martinez. An autopsy or preliminary toxicology screening will be completed to determine if he was under the influence at the time of the accident.
The reports have not specified if Martinez was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident.
Police are currently still investigating the accident. When a cause has been determined, they will release the information to the public.
