When the driver got to the end of the road, he was unable to stop in time and ended up driving through a fence. Brookman hit an embankment and ended up soaring into the Thermalito Dam Canal. The man and Stothers, the passenger in the front seat, escaped from the car alive.
The CHP said that the back seat had a 32-year-old man, a 1-year-old child, and a 7-month-old baby. The trio didn’t make it alive, and the medics at the scene pronounced them dead at the scene. Their identities are withheld pending the notification of the next-of-kin.
Ben Draper, an officer in the CHP’s Oroville office, described the accident as tragic. He said that alcohol is considered a factor in the accident, but the investigation is ongoing, and they hope to uncover more things.
Brookman was taken to the Oroville Hospital for treatment, and upon his release, he might face charges of felony driving under the influence and felony child endangerment. If that happens, he would need a drunk driving attorney.
Authorities have asked residents of the city to report car accidents and impaired drivers to prevent fatalities and injuries.
