The Modesto Police Department said that he struck the concrete barrier on the east side of the street near the intersection of Woodland Avenue and Coldwell Avenue. The impact caused the Lexus to go airborne and roll several times before hitting the ground.
Hernandez’s injuries were so severe, he never stood a chance and passed away without making it to the hospital. Two passengers in the unfortunate vehicle, Roberto Rosales, 20, and Martin Castelan, 27, suffered injuries but survived.
The paramedics took the two to a local hospital where they received treatment. MPD spokeswoman, Sharon Bear said that the extent of the injuries Rosales and Castelan has is unknown. She disclosed that Hernandez would undergo a toxicology test to determine if alcohol played a role in the crash.
It would take several weeks for the test result to get ready, and the police would provide updates once they have more answers.
A look at accident reports shows that impaired driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol is one of the leading causes of fatalities in California. Drivers, therefore, should not drink and drive and ensure their blood alcohol content is below .08%. \
