The highway patrol revealed it has evidence that Reid drove erratically after leaving a store on Sutton Way. Officer Mike Steel said the crash happened before they could intercept the woman, about a mile from the store. The incident left her trapped in the nearly severed Honda, and first responders had to use jaws of life to extricate her.
The CHP believes that the victim was under the control of a controlled substance, but did not release additional information. The investigation remains active.
Intoxication, either of drugs or alcohol, affects a person’s cognitive abilities, making it difficult for him or her to focus when behind the wheel of a vehicle. It leads to acts of recklessness like erratic driving and speeding and often ends in severe or fatal accidents.
Curbing this means drivers should avoid driving while impaired. If already on the road, park in the slow traffic lane and seek alternative means of transportation. Doing the two would save lives and prevent adverse legal consequences.
