The vehicle traveled southbound on the highway when it crossed the center line and struck a northbound white Kia Optima driven by Rios. The NHP said that the Dodge’s right front hit the left front of the second vehicle, and the first car overturned as it rolled over the Kia.
The investigators said that the impact ejected the Dodge’s juvenile male driver before the vehicle rested on its roof. The teen sustained severe wounds, and medics transported him to Humboldt General Hospital for treatment. There’s no update on his condition.
The KIA rested on its wheels, and Rois sustained extensive injuries that claimed his life. The NHP said that the Dodge caught fire and emergency responders had to put it out. The collision led to the closure of traffic lanes in both directions.
Motor vehicle collisions occur at the least expected times, but they are preventable if drivers operate their vehicles with care and caution. Motorists should also obey traffic rules and regulations and maintain the speed limit.
