A 28-year-old man, Benjamin Hung, was arrested by the police on Sunday, May 31, after he drove through a crowd of protesters. According to accident reports, the incident happened at Fair Oaks Avenue and Colorado Boulevard, Old Pasadena, California.
Evidence from a social media video post showed that Hung, of San Marino, was driving a gray sedan. He was in the crosswalk on the south side of the intersection and moving slowly through the protesters.

With a few protesters still in front of his vehicle, Hung accelerated, dragging a man holding a green placard. With the man on top of the sedan’s hood, onlookers screamed, with some of them chasing after Hung’s vehicle.
The chase continued until the car drove out of view, after which a police siren blared. There was no immediate information about the man atop the sedan’s condition, though reports from the scene said he was okay.
The nature of Hung’s interaction with the protesting crowd before he drove off the scene is unclear. According to Lieutenant Carolyn Gordon of the Pasadena Police Department, detectives are investigating the incident. No additional information is available at this time.
During protests or crowd trouble, motorists must exercise caution when driving through streets and roads where protesters are. Accident reports show that many collisions occur during protests as a result of speeding vehicles. Hence, drivers must avoid speeding in such conditions.
Drivers must also avoid having altercations with protesters. They should turn around and follow other routes if it is unsafe to go through the path where a crowd is gathered.
