Preliminary investigations showed that the fatal victim was riding a bicycle on the roadside on Highway 53. Just as he approached the road’s intersection with Dam Road, the bicycle rider got struck by an oncoming vehicle, knocking him to the ground alongside his bike. The young man suffered severe injuries in the crash, the California Highway Patrol reported.
When the emergency response crew arrived, they found the victim already dead. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office identified the deceased cyclist as Michael Everson, a 20-year-old male.
Deputies are yet to determine if speed, distracted driving, or intoxication contributed to the tragic crash that claimed Everson’s life.
The CHP’s Clear Lake Area office is investigating the cause and liability of the traffic wreck.
Involving a bicycle accident attorney would enable the deceased’s family to secure adequate compensation for damages resulting from the loss.
