According to Annette Martinez, the mother of Lopez’s son, he was in a car with friends. At some point, an argument ensued, and he got out of the vehicle and started to walk.
He was struck on U.S.67 about two miles southwest of San Angelo.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Lopez was walking northeast on the southwest-bound side of the road when the driver ran him over and drove off.
The vehicle was seen going south towards Mertzon.
There were no reports that the driver had been located up to Tuesday night.
Martinez said Lopez’s family was heartbroken after hearing how he died. She urged the driver to turn themselves in since it was the right thing to do.
Martinez did not indicate whether the family would seek representation from a car accident lawyer.
She said Lopez’s mother devastated at the loss of her only son.
She also expressed concern about her son who has diabetic ketoacidosis, a condition that can worsen because of stress.
