A press release from the Berkshire District Attorney’s Office released that 25-year-old Austin Shaw was involved in a single-vehicle accident on April 18 at approximately 2:30 p.m. The accident happened in the city of Richmond, just off of Route 41.
Based on preliminary reports, Shaw failed to execute a curve in the road on Route 41 when the Buick sedan he was driving left the roadway and into a tree. The investigators believe that Shaw was driving northbound on Route 41 when the accident occurred.

A motorist who was passing by the scene, stopped and called 911. They removed an infant who sustained little to no injuries from the car before Richmond EMTs arriving. The EMTs took the baby to Berkshire Medical Center for evaluation of injuries and was released.
It was not released what the relationship was between Shaw and the infant was.
The Department of Transportation closed the road to traffic to investigate the scene at approximately 3 p.m. EMTs pronounced Shaw dead at the scene of the accident. The vehicle had to be towed from the scene due to the extensive damage.
The police do believe that speed was the only factor related to the accident. There was no evidence of drugs or alcohol to suggest otherwise.
The road reopened to traffic at approximately 7:30 p.m. Multiple units are credited for responding to the scene of the accident. The Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section are continuing to investigate the single-car accident.
