The officers were on their way to the location when another call came in about a major accident. When the deputies got to the scene, they found the sedan collided head-on with the 18-wheeler, causing it to jackknife before the smaller vehicle burst into flames.
Soon after, another 18-wheeler happened upon the scene and struck the cab of the already jackknifed trailer. Segura and Casas died from the injuries sustained from the crash, while the occupants of the third vehicle went away with minor wounds.
The medical examiner identified the deceased men, but the authorities did not state the vehicle Segura and Casas were driving. The investigation into the crash is ongoing to determine if alcohol or drugs played a role in the tragic collision.
The accident led to traffic officials reiterating the importance of drivers maintaining their lanes. They have also advised residents of Texas to report car accidents and wrong-way drivers continually.
