Just days after the fiery accident that caused damage on I-85 and killed two drivers, another accident occurred in almost the exact same location. The accident happened on Monday, February 3, close to 6:20 a.m. in the northbound lanes near Jimmy Carter Boulevard.
The report from Georgia State Police stated that a 2019 Dodge Challenger that had been reported stolen was tailgating a 2017 Toyota Camry in the 7th lane going northbound.

A chain reaction soon followed as the Challenger hit the Camry from behind causing it to overturn. When that happened the top of the Camry hit the right side of a tractor-trailer that had been driving next to the two vehicles.
The Camry then went into the eastern emergency lane and struck the wall barrier with the front end of the vehicle and came to a stop facing southward and in flames. The Challenger, also losing control, struck the same barrier with the front end of the vehicle.
The driver of the Camry was identified as 31-year-old Matthew Millwood of Canton and the tractor-trailer driver was identified as 47-year-old Christopher Noble of Lawrenceville.
Georgia State Police released that there were no life-threatening injuries sustained as a result of the accident. Millwood was able to escape to safety from the engulfed car on his own. He was assessed by emergency personnel and taken to the hospital for treatment.
Currently, they do not know the identity of the driver who was in the stolen Challenger. The only reports available were accounts that the man who fled on foot from the Challenger after the accident was a black male. He remains at large.
Emergency responders were able to extinguish the flames coming from the Camry quickly, but the interstate was not reopened until around 8 a.m. so that the investigation and charred remains could be cleared from the scene.
