The Los Altos resident and student of UC Santa Barbara sustained severe injuries from the crash, and the medics took him to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital using an American Response ambulance. His condition at the time of this report is unknown.
The CHP said that Haslem is a professional cyclist and has been training for the July Three Peaks Bike Race. They did not release any information about the driver of the Toyota, the extent of his or her liability, or if he or she would get cited.
The investigation into the crash remains active, and the authorities will provide an update once they have more information.
An auto-bicycle accident favors a car driver more than a bicyclist who has no protection for when his or her body lands on the roadway. Bicyclists suffer wounds ranging from head trauma, bone break, and fractures, to internal bleeding and fatal organ damage.
Those involved in auto-bicycle accidents should contact a bicycle accident attorney for legal advice and representation.
