The investigators reported that a Ford F550 dump truck was eastbound on Gulch when it failed to negotiate a right-hand curve on the roadway. The driver lost control of the vehicle, crossed into the opposite lane of traffic, and overturned down an embankment on the north side of the road.
The Ford then rested on its roof at approximately 50 feet down a steep bank. CHP said that neither Reckart nor Cooper was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, but failed to specify who the driver was between the two. The overturned truck ejected the victims, and when first responders arrived at the scene, they found them trapped under it.
The vehicle also lost the load of metal fence T-posts it was carrying. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and there’s no additional information at this time. Most motor vehicle crashes are the direct result of negligence, and drivers can avoid it by driving carefully and obeying the road’s rules.
