Scheda was heading south on the Highway in a white Honda Civic when she suddenly drifted into the opposite lane. The teenager collided head-on with a black Mini Cooper.
Scheda also drove her Honda into a box truck and sustained severe trauma. By the time first responders got to the scene, the teenager was already dead, and they pronounced her.
The driver of the Mini Cooper, who remains unidentified, was severely injured in the accident and taken by the paramedics to the hospital for treatment. The driver of the box truck was unhurt and equally unidentified.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and the police have not provided additional information at the time of this report.
Accidents caused by teenagers are not uncommon in California. Statistics have shown that most teenagers get into traffic crashes due to their inexperience being on the road.
Another reason teenage drivers get involved in accidents is driving while distracted. Texting, making phone calls, eating, and conversing with passengers provide distractions.
Teenagers also crash their cars due to excessive speed and driving under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or the combination of both.
