19-year-old Alexis Magallanes of Berwyn received a citation for violating Scott’s Law and causing a multiple vehicle collision on northbound Interstate 55, Chicago, Illinois. The accident happened on Wednesday, September 16th, and the teenager would need a car injury lawyer’s services.
According to a press release by the Illinois State Police, the events leading to the occurrence began with a state trooper blocking traffic for a commercial motor vehicle stalled in the left lane of I-55. A trooper sat inside the car, and an oncoming white 2003 Toyota pickup truck slammed into him.

Another vehicle, a white 2006 Ford Econoline van traveling in the same direction, struck both the trooper’s car and Magallanes’ pickup truck. The collision force pushed the patrol vehicle into a concrete median, and it rested in the left lane.
The Ford van rested in a ditch on the right side of the road. The police said that the trooper’s car was struck for the third time by a blue 2011 Subaru SUV as it attempted to avoid the crash.
The trooper suffered severe but non-life-threatening injuries, and an air ambulance conveyed him to a local hospital for treatment. Magallanes sustained severe wounds and received treatment at the same hospital.
Asides from the first citation, the ISP cited the teenager for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. Scott’s Law or Move Over Law mandates drivers approaching any police or emergency vehicle stopped along the roadway to proceed with due caution, change lanes if possible, and reduce speed.
