On Wednesday, April 1, an ATV accident occurred around 9:30 p.m. near Plymouth, Illinois. The accident happened on eastbound County Road 530 North and approximately a half-mile east of County Road 2900 East. The accident involved 36-year-old Ross Smith, who was driving a 2007 Honda TRX400EX on a gravel road when he lost control based on the accident reports.
The Illinois State Police said that Smith was going too fast for conditions and lost control of the ATV. When he lost control, he went down an embankment and rolled. The accident caused Smith to be ejected off of the ATV.

After getting back on the ATV, Smith was able to drive it an additional two miles before finding a house and having emergency services come to the scene. Airlift took Smith to OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria. As of Thursday, a spokesperson reported Smith was listed in good condition.
The Illinois State Police have openly stated that the investigation is pending, and so are charges. There was no mention of alcohol or drugs being a factor in the accident. Although speed is a factor in the accident, there is a possibility the ATV could be to blame as well.
An ATV accident lawyer can help Smith determine if there are any active recalls on the Honda. Faulty equipment on a vehicle can cause accidents that are beyond the control of the operator.
Updates will be provided once the investigation is closed.
