The Cowlitz County Coroner’s Office has confirmed the victim of a fatal car crash as twenty-year-old Washougal resident, Adrian J. Calzada-Gonzales. The crash occurred earlier in the week on the southbound Interstate 5 in Clark County, Washington, but no victim was named as the driver’s body had not be located.
Washington State Patrol stated that a car wreck occurred on a bridge crossing the Coweeman River. Investigations by the State Troopers had revealed that a Mercedes ad been traveling south on the freeway, not far form Milepost 38. The car hit the left barrier, which was made out of concrete. The force of the impact caused the car to spin out of control and it moved across all three lanes of traffic, only coming to a stop when it hit the guardrail on the right hand side of the road.

When authorities arrived at the site of the wreck, the car was found to be located in the center lane facing oncoming traffic. However, the Mercedes was the only vehicle involved in the crash, and no other citizens were involved in the wreck. Troopers followed official procedures and closed the road as they investigated the accident. Initial investigations showed that that the driver, Adrian J. Calzada-Gonzales, had been ejected due to the force of the crash, but no body could be located.
The State Patrol sent out search and rescue teams to investigate the Coweeman River, but it took several days to locate a body. On Wednesday a body was located in the river but investigators did not want to jump to conclusions and assume that the victim was the driver of the Mercedes.
After forensic examinations by the Cowlitz County Coroner’s Office and investigations by the State Troopers it has been announced that Calzada-Gonzales was the driver of the car and the persons who had been found dead in the river. It is not yet known what factors led to Calzada-Gonzales crashing his vehicle and investigations continue.
