According to witnesses near the scene, both had the green light. Bystanders tried to help the boy by performing CPR until emergency personnel arrived at the scene. The driver of the SUV even stopped and rendered aid. She was the one who called 911.
Trejo died at the scene of the accident. He went into cardiac arrest at the accident site and deemed beyond medical help due to the injuries sustained in the accident.
The driver of the SUV had just dropped her child off at school when the accident happened. Police are not sure if distraction caused the accident or if the weather played a factor. The ground was wet at the time of the accident, and the rain was coming down.
The investigator for the accident is the same investigator who was at the scene of an accident last August. Roberto Diaz would have been 15 now, but he was hit in the same crosswalk and dragged by a car.
A GoFundMe account has been set up for the family by a non-profit organization to help with expenses.
Police are still investigating the accident, but at this time no charges have been filed.
