Two fatal victims resulted from a car-motorcycle crash on Sunday evening, August 23rd, in Decatur, Illinois. The Decatur police disclosed their names as Maria Karmatzis, 60 and Edward Clark Jr., 58, both occupants of the involved motorcycle.

The victims were traveling in a motorcycle westbound on West Main Street when it collided with an eastbound car. According to the reports, Clark Jr., operating the motorbike crossed the double yellow lines into eastbound traffic where he encountered the vehicle. The crash’s impact knocked the motorcycle to the ground, expelling its occupants near Dipper Lane.

Clark Jr. and Karmatzis suffered fatal injuries, and first responders pronounced them dead at the scene. The 24-year-old man driving the car did not sustain any injury in the accident. No other casualty resulted from the encounter.

Motorcycles have proven more dangerous than cars in recent years due to the high rate of traffic fatalities and injuries. Although car and motorcycle accidents result from similar factors, the motorcyclist faces more danger, especially in high-risk areas like road intersections, potholes or lane diversions. Being smaller and less stable than a car does little in abating the plight of motorcycle users on roadways.

In cases of car-motorcycle accidents, a motorcycle attorney can help establish the cause of the crash, the liable party, as well as the best approach in recovering compensations for resulting damages.
