At about 8:15 p.m. that day, officers spotted the Fernwood resident in a dark-colored Jeep linked to a homicide. They tried to stop the vehicle in the 9400-block of South Union Avenue, but Oliver drove off into Irving Park on the Northwest Side, at an alleged speed of 100 mph.

The suspect crashed the Jeep near Irving Park Road and Keystone Avenue, stole a 2016 Nissan SUV from a gas station, and drove off at 9:54 p.m. The CPD kept chasing the man with their sirens on, and a marked squad car slammed into a Ford Explorer, driven by Francisco-Martinez, on Ashland Avenue.

The squad car spun and struck a Hummer with a 62-year-old man and women aged 29 and 44 as the occupants. The trio received treatment at Northwestern Memorial Hospital for minor wounds. Two officers injured in the crash also received treatment.

Oliver drove the Nissan to the South Side, where he crashed into a pole in Bridgeport. He tried to flee on foot, but officers apprehended him at about 10:13 p.m. in the 800-block of West Pershing Road. The suspect suffered injuries and received treatment at Chicago Medical Center.
